Octopus Ride Lyrics and Perspectives on Octopus by Syd Barrett

Do I need to repeat the fact that I am a HUGE Syd Barrett fan? I absolutely adore The Madcap Laughs - almost all songs from the album. The song is recommended - highly recommended. You dont need to think twice, just go get the album or simply the song and I bet youll be loving the Octopus Ride like I am doing.
Lyrics Here -

Trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro, you have no word
Trip, trip to a dream dragon, hide your wings in a ghost tower
Sails cackling at every plate we break
Cracked by scattered needles the little minute gong coughs and clears his throat
Madam you see before you stand, hey ho, never be still
The old original favorite grand, grasshoppers green Herbarian band
And the tune they play is "In Us Confide"
So trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro, you have no word
Please leave us here, close our eyes to the octopus ride!

Isnt it good to be lost in the wood
Isnt it bad so quiet there, in the wood
Meant even less to me than I thought
With a honey plough of yellow prickly seeds
Clover honey pots and mystic shining feed

Well, the madcap laughed at the man on the border, hey ho, huff the Talbot
"Cheat" he cried shouting kangaroo, its true in their tree they cried
Please leave us here, close our eyes to the octopus ride!

Please leave us here, close our eyes to the octopus ride!

The madcap laughed at the man on the border, hey ho, huff the Talbot
The winds they blew and the leaves did wag
Theyll never put me in their bag, the seas will reach and always seep
So high you go, so low you creep, the wind it blows in tropical heat
The drones they throng on mossy seats, the squeaking door will always squeak
Two up, two down well never meet, so merrily trip forgo my side
Please leave us here, close our eyes to the octopus ride!

The concept of the three words - The Madcap Laughs - is first of all, extraordinarily beautiful to me. HATS OFF SYD BARRETT! The lyrics want me to leave for the woods for a day or two - solitary, alone,on a starry night, beside a river. May be a torch and my guitar would do - nothing else required. I would love to drink in the moonlight and river breeze. Ah! State of Bliss! The sparkling sand and shimmery water, the moon and the sky,as if a beautiful girl dressed up in a sheer, white gown, like a French painting. Am I going poetic? Some famous,Bengali communist poet once said in one of his poems - "The moon to the hungry is nothing but a mere structure of bread!" So,poems - sometimes make me feel a bit......ashamed. Coming back to the song, I really have a few similar sentences - I WANT TO TRAVEL ALONE. (Cant do so unless targets are fulfilled.) Right beside the river and the woods, with my guitar and a very low capacity torch. Such feelings dont touch me easily. I would really thank Barrett for ever writing such a delight! Seems dreamy and a perfect holiday sort of piece of rocking music!

4 Way Video Calls on iPad

Last month Fring released an iPad optimized version of their app that can do 4-way video calling. Now you can talk to 4 people at once and because the screen is cut in 4 you can see everyone.

You can make the video calls over 3G as well as WiFi and as an added bonus, Fring is a multi platform app. You can use it to talk and video chat with your friends even if they have an Android device.

I cant help but think about ways to use this in education.

Imagine using this app in the classroom to:
1. Connecting with Experts
2. Creating Virtual Field Trips
3. Great Group Work
4. Connecting with other Schools
5. Conducting Interviews
6. Professional Development
7. Collaborating with other classes
8. Connecting with students in other countries
9. Sharing an overseas holiday with other students
10. Small Groups Tutorials
